Works in progress

After the last opening on Thursday, 14 December 2023, the renovation of the Museum of Archaeology’s spaces will begin. On Monday, 18 December, the move will take place, an imposing operation that will involve thousands of artefacts, placed in this prestigious location, the heart of the 15th-century San Matteo Hospital’s cross vault, back in 1957. Indeed, it was the Rector of the time, Plinio Fraccaro, who chose this extraordinary exhibition space, which today, after 66 years, will undergo a major redevelopment by the University’s technical department. Furthermore, with a view to the reopening, we will also study a better display of the museum’s exhibits, and we are already at work on this: in the photo, Mr Luca Retus of the Retus Lab company in Pavia is working on a historical display case.

Although the Museum will be closed until a later date, the Museum’s activities will not be suspended: after the move at the end of January 2024, we will focus on the enhancement of the Loggetta Sforzesca with its Renaissance artefacts, the Museum’s Monetarium and the Lapidarium with many classical artefacts that are still little known.
