What is in the Duat: the restoration of the Egyptian papyrus

Alberto Ferrari’s video illustrates the handling and assembly of an Egyptian papyrus from the Museum of Archaeology of the University of Pavia, carried out by restorer Chiara Argentino when the frame was replaced for conservation purposes. It is a papyrus from the Amduat (literally “that which is in the beyond”) which tells of the night-time journey of the sun from sunset to sunrise. Papyrus scrolls of this type, written in hieroglyphic and illustrated, were placed next to the sarcophagi of the mummified dead to accompany them on their afterlife journey and to allow them to continue living forever.
