The Museum of Archaeology participates in the Digital Library Pavia project: presentation – 13 January 2021

The Museum of Archaeology, together with other Museums of the University Museum System of Pavia, participates in the Digital Library PAVIA project of the Cultural Heritage Area of the University of Pavia.

Digital Library PAVIA is an application that allows to collect, preserve, enhance and make available in digital format archival material, books and museums of the University of Pavia and other institutions in the area.
Given the historical, cultural and artistic importance of the materials collected and preserved, the service is intended to support study and research not only for teachers, researchers and students of the University of Pavia, but also for the entire community.
During the presentation, the main features of the service will be illustrated, as well as the different types of searches that can be carried out, the methods for viewing, enlarging and downloading images, and, thanks to OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, the possibility of analysing archived texts.
The materials collected will be presented, which currently exceed 2,700 objects of various kinds (archival assets, drawings, paintings, photographs, museum objects, books, music books, etc.), totalling over 500,000 images.
Some examples of what can be found and freely consulted:

– The Numismatic Fund with Roman Republican and Celtic coins kept at the Museum of Archaeology;
– Objects from Alessandro Volta’s Physics Cabinet or from the Physics Cabinet of the 19th century; or, again, the Instrumentalarium (surgery and obstetrics) of Giovanni Alessandro Brambilla, preserved – like the previous ones – at the Museum for the History of the University;
– The volumes published by the Centre for the History of the University;
– The “Plinio Fraccaro” Rari di Storia Locale (Rare Books of Local History) collection kept at the Humanities Library;
