On Saturday 24 October 2020, the Museum of Archaeology of the University of Pavia reopens.
The Museum will be open from 15.30 to 18.30, free of charge. At 4.30 p.m. there will be a public presentation of the latest restoration work carried out on two Roman marble statues from the excavations of the ancient Roman city of Veleia. It will be possible to see the latest conservation operations in the still open restoration site. Images and videos of the various phases of the work carried out by Mario Colella and Silvia Marchioron with the support of the entire team of the Piccolo Chiostro Conservation Centre in Pavia will also be shown. The study of the artefacts from a chemical point of view, which guided the restoration choices, was conducted by Prof. Maurizio Licchelli of CISRiC (Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi e Ricerche per la Conservazione del Patrimonio Culturale), while the exhibition and valorisation of the artefacts was supported by Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio and Prof. Marchioron. Ferdinando Auricchio and Prof. Gianluca Alaimo, together with their colleagues Prof. Stefania Marconi and Dr. Alberto Cattenone, with the 3D printing of an innovative PA12 (nylon) support, made with the equipment available at the ProtoLab of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture. This was therefore an interesting interdisciplinary project that brought together different specialist skills from the University of Pavia.
The participation of Prof. Stefano Maggi, Professor of Classical Archaeology at our University, a recognised specialist in Roman sculpture in northern Italy, is assured.
The restoration was co-financed by the Lombardy Region.
For the 4.30 p.m. event, compulsory booking via e-mail: museo.archeologia@unipv.it
