Despite the continued closure due to the health emergency, the Museum has resumed some restoration work behind closed doors. Chiara Argentino came to Pavia to collect 95 photographs from the second half of the 19th century, made using the albumen technique, i.e. using egg white as a binding agent. The photos depict spectacular views of archaeological sites in Greece, Turkey, Lebanon and especially Egypt. They were taken by famous photographic studios that had sprung up near the most important monuments of antiquity to provide souvenir photos for the wealthy tourists of the time.
Chiara Argentino, a high-profile professional restorer who has already carried out work for the Museum, will take care of these images in her studio in Bologna and when she brings them back to Pavia we will see to it that they are put to good use, so that they become part of our public’s heritage.
Another journey has begun!
