Welcome back papyrus!

The Amduat papyrus returns to Pavia after a year’s absence, lent to the exhibition Sotto il Cielo di Nut, organised by Milan’s Museo Civico Archeologico, which opens in March 2020.

The funerary papyrus today made a safe journey thanks to the professionalism of the Apice company. It is a precious document of Egyptian religiosity of more than 3000 years ago, which recounts the journey of the Sun God during the night, through drawings and hieroglyphic writing.

Come and see it in the museum as soon as we reopen!

The photos show some of the stages of the return of the artefact, up to its return to the Egyptian corner display case, under the watchful eye of Curator Anna Letizia Magrassi Matricardi. Such a precious and delicate artefact must be handled with extreme care, in accordance with all the rules of good conservation.
