The Museum of Archaeology of the Pavia University Museum System invites you to listen to an extraordinary concert, recorded in Pavia in the fascinating setting of the Museum.
Tuesday 8 December, 9 p.m.
What can you do?
Arias and laments from 17th-century Italy
GIUSEPPINA BRIDELLI, mezzo-soprano
MICHELE PASOTTI, lute
Music by L. Rossi, F. Cavalli, B. Strozzi, G. Frescobaldi, G.A. Cesti, B. Ferrari
The event is free and will be available on the YouTube channel of the Early Music Centre of the Ghislieri Foundation and on the Facebook pages of the Municipality of Pavia or Vivi Pavia or the Civic Museums.
The concert is organised as part of the cycle Art and music for a new Christmas Festival organised in partnership by the Pavia City Council Culture Department and the Early Music Centre of the Ghislieri Foundation together for a special online edition, starting on 3 December 2020, with the contribution of the Lombardy Region.
The project was created to combine the Centro di Musica Antica’s usual Christmas activities, which have always been aimed at reaching out to all those who, for various reasons, do not have the opportunity to enjoy music as an important moment of sharing, with the opportunity offered by the Department of Culture to rediscover some of Pavia’s often unknown places of great beauty and particular historical and artistic value.
The Festival will consist of a series of five concerts and a series of virtual guided tours of the Civic Museums of Castello Visconteo. The five concerts in the programme – recorded in unique locations, including the Castle’s Visconti Library, Palazzo Mezzabarba, the Church of San Marino, the Museum of Archaeology and the Aula Golgi of the University of Pavia – will feature some of the world’s leading baroque musicians, who will perform programmes specifically designed to harmonise with the chosen locations and highlight their charm: Giuseppina Bridelli, mezzo-soprano and Michele Pasotti, lute (8/12), Ayako Matsunaga, violin and Takashi Watanabe, harpsichord (11/12), Federico Toffano, cello (15/12), the trio Maria Chiara Gallo, Diego Castelli and Rossella Policardo (18/12). In closing, Coro Ghislieri, directed by Giulio Prandi and accompanied by Maria Cecilia Farina, Federico Toffano and Giangiacomo Pinardi and the solo voices of Federico Fiorio, Maria Chiara Gallo, Raffaele Giordani and Matteo Bellotto (22/12).
The Festival is developed in collaboration with CSV Lombardia sud and the Festival dei Diritti 2020, and enjoys the patronage of FAI – Delegazione di Pavia.
